The Disappearance of Clara McKenzie pt 1, Mechanics and Meta: Driving Scene Setup
Because the previous Scene felt chaotic, I raised the Chaos Factor to 6 before moving to the next part of the story, which was driving to Stanton City.
Before I got there, I rolled against the Chaos Factor and got a 3, which meant it was an Interrupted Scene — something was going to happen before I made it to my destination.
When using The Adventure Crafter with Mythic GME, you use The Adventure Crafter to handle Random Scenes, such as Interrupted Scenes. I had added both Clara and Amina’s plots to the list, but when I rolled, I got “New Plotline.”
When I rolled for the Plot Points, I got the following:
Quiet Catastrophe (Just about the worst thing that can happen does happen.)
A Resource Disappears (An important object or resource is stolen by an unknown thief.)
Something Exotic (Whatever is happening in this Turning Point it involves an unusual or exotic element.)
And a Meta plotline: Character Upgrade, which just had me roll against my Characters list to see who would be added to the list three more times, making them more important. I got “Choose most logical,” so I chose Rudy. Honestly, in hindsight of the scene, I should have gone with Clara. I still might change that.
So, what’s the worst thing that can happen when you’re driving somewhere? A car accident.
And I only had one resource available: the tape.
The Exotic element had me stumped, though, so I talked it over with ChatGPT and it gave me the suggestion of seeing someone in the bed of the truck who turns out to not be there.
Let’s ask Mythic about it..
Q: Is the figure in the bed someone Rudy knows?
A: Yes!
Q: Is the figure in the bed of the truck Clara?
A: Yes!
To make Clara stand out, I needed a suggestion on a character appearance and I got “Festive Tattoo.”
And that’s how the accident happened.
