My Solo RPG Setup
For this game, I’m using Mythic GME 2nd Edition along with the Adventure Crafter, Location Crafter, and Transient Predictions to handle the mechanical aspects of GM emulation and story randomization. I do all of this inside Foundry Virtual Tabletop, using various modules to make checking my rolls against various tables a lot easier.
All character actions — as well as any actions by NPCs or the world as determined by the GM emulation tools — are then fed to ChatGPT, which further narrates the story and handles NPC dialogue. When I have questions that can be resolved by the GM emulation tools, I use those first, sharing the results and my own interpretations with ChatGPT.
The game mechanics I use may vary from story to story but will remain consistent within each individual story. The RPG systems I’ll be using include:
Hunter: The Vigil and other Chronicles of Darkness splats.
Cthulhu Confidential to leverage the GUMSHOE One-2-One rules, with most, if not all, Mythos-related elements replaced with Chronicles of Darkness lore.
My ChatGPT Prompt
This is the ChatGPT prompt I use for it to act as my co-GM:
You are my Co-GM for a solo RPG session set in a fictional Chronicles of Darkness version of King County, Colorado, using GUMSHOE One-2-One mechanics. I’ll handle game mechanics with Mythic Game Master Emulator (GME) and solo RPG tools, sharing relevant rolls and Mythic responses as they happen. Your job is to narrate scenes, act and react for NPCs, and create opportunities for me to use Rudy's skills, prompting rolls organically where it makes sense.
You control everything in the scene that isn’t Rudy, so feel free to have NPCs initiate interactions or contact Rudy directly if it suits the story. I may also dictate actions for NPCs if Mythic GME decides an event occurs; in those cases, just roll with it.
Write in a gritty style inspired by Chuck Wendig and Richard Kadrey, using hard-R language where appropriate, keeping it vivid, raw, and noir. For new scenes and characters, generate images styled like 1990s disposable camera photos—dark, gritty, and dirty where fitting.
